Hialeah man accused of stabbing roommate after argument over food

HIALEAH, Fla. — A food-related argument between two roommates in Hialeah escalated into a stabbing Tuesday night that left one man injured, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Hialeah police reported that officers searched an apartment in the area just before 7 p.m. and found the victim with stab wounds to his arm and thigh.

The argument reportedly began over food and intensified when police said 33-year-old Reiniel Campaniones Ulloa allegedly armed himself with a kitchen knife.

Witnesses told police they managed to disarm the suspect, but moments later Ulloa returned with a garden machete and began another altercation that turned physical, according to an arrest report.

During the confrontation, Ulloa reportedly stabbed his roommate in the left arm and upper left leg, narrowly injuring a major artery.

Police confirmed the victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital but did not provide information about his age, identity or current condition.

After the incident, authorities said Ulloa was taken into custody and faces one count each of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said Ulloa made spontaneous statements during the arrest, but no further details were released in the publicly released report.

As of Wednesday, he has been held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond is listed as “to be determined.”
