First strong cold front of the season, bringing San Antonio temperatures near freezing

SAN ANTONIO – Get ready to experience our first real taste of crisp fall temperatures in San Antonio!

It's been a record warm fall for us in San Antonio so far, experiencing our warmest October on record and 12 days this November, very much on track for our warmest November in San Antonio. The coolest high temperature we've seen so far is 75° on the 5th of this month.

That will change dramatically next week as a strong cold front moves across Texas. After a very warm weekend, during which a hurricane from the Caribbean is likely to move into the eastern Gulf, a large low pressure area will develop in the center of the country and pull polar air southward.

The first front arrives early Tuesday, but with a smaller drop in temperatures. The second stronger cold front arrives very early Wednesday with gusty northerly winds exceeding 30 mph. Next Wednesday, temperatures will likely reach the mid to upper 60s under sunny skies, then push into the 60s on Thursday. A normal high through the end of next week is 69. The Climate Prediction Center's 8- to 14-day outlook is leaning heavily toward cooler than normal temperatures across Texas.

At this point I don't anticipate any frost issues in and around San Antonio, but we will have to keep an eye on the Hill Country. However, it is possible that this pattern change will cause us to see some frost patches when the sky is clear at night.

This pattern shift will continue into the first part of Thanksgiving week, with temperatures more closely resembling fall temperatures compared to the unseasonably warm weather we have been seeing.
