One dead in officer-involved shooting in south Fargo

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning in south Fargo.

At approximately 10:50 a.m., police responded to the 6100 block of 61st Avenue South. Officers were dispatched to a suicidal individual in a home.

When officers arrived, they learned that person was armed. Emergency medical services were staged nearby as officers tried to make contact with the person.

Police say, after a period of time, the individual came out of the home with a rifle and officers discharged their firearms. The individual was pronounced dead on the scene.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The department has turned the investigation over to the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NDBCI).
