Dumpster incident at 3rd Street Dollar General injures officer, ends with Indiana man arrested

On 04/11/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Christopher M. Render, age 51, of Owensville, Indiana, for criminal trespass to property, resisting/obstructing a peace officer, and aggravated assault on a peace officer following an incident at the Dollar General Store on West 3rd Street. Police responded to the store after the manager requested criminal prosecution due to the aforementioned defendant's attempt to remove items from the dumpster. The manager said he asked Render to stay away from the dumpster, but he refused. Upon arrival, officers told Render that the manager did not want him in the dumpster area. Render disagreed and said he would not leave the property. The manager wanted to file trespassing charges against him and was allowed to do so. Officers returned to Render and told him he was under arrest. Render refused to comply and resisted the officer's arrest attempts by backing away from the officer. Render eventually obeyed and was handcuffed. When they arrived at the patrol car, Render refused to get into the vehicle, causing officers to struggle to arrest him again. During the fight, Render injured an officer's knee when he rolled his body onto it. Officers eventually regained control of Render and transported him to the Wabash County Jail, where he was charged with the above charges and held pending a pretrial release order from the court.
