Patrick Mahomes credits his “dad” for the viral touchdown against the 49ers

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes scored his first rushing touchdown in 32 games in last week's Super Bowl rematch against the San Francisco 49ers.

During that one-yard sprint, Mahomes was hit by a 49ers defender who attempted to tackle him before he crossed the goal line.

This player quickly turned into a meme when Mahomes slammed him to the turf as he scored six points.

Before the Chiefs' road game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Mahomes was asked about that moment.

Mahomes credited his “daddy bod” with honor.

“I actually lowered my shoulder to take the hit, right there in the end zone, and that 'dad bod,' man, had enough weight on me right where he went down,” Mahomes said. “So it wasn’t the case that I initially tried to seek contact. I tried to absorb it and get into the end zone.”

Either way, Malik Mustapha was dropped by Mahomes, who stared down at his opponent while his teammates celebrated the result.

Mahomes' efforts resulted in another victory for the Chiefs and they remain the only undefeated team in the NFL.

However, things were difficult for Mahomes in the passing game. Last week he threw two more interceptions and completed just 154 total yards on 16 of 27 passes.

The Chiefs won't complain about the results. But Mahomes leads the league with eight interceptions and has just six passing touchdowns.

Kansas City traded for former Tennessee Titans receiver DeAndre Hopkins this week, who not only adds a veteran presence but can also potentially take over Rashee Rice's role as Mahomes' top target.

Rice is out for a year after Mahomes hit his leg during a tackle following an interception against the Los Angeles Chargers. Rice suffered a season-ending injury and the Chiefs relied on Juju Smith-Schuster, among others, to get the ball offside.

In head coach Andy Reid's offensive plan, everyone can contribute and perform, which has been the case in recent weeks. And Reid said there will be no easing on Hopkins, who is scheduled to play Sunday against the Raiders.
