He is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and fourth-degree weapons possession.

Saxon's mother spoke to the New York Daily News and insisted that there had to be more to the story.

“I don't know what happened, but based on what I know, I can tell you all that it won't be as easy as you want it to be. Dynus didn’t just decide to murder someone,” she said. “Dynus will protect himself, he's human, you know what I'm saying. He is young. I don’t know what situation he got into.”

She claimed her son had no memory of the stabbing.

“Whatever happened, it wasn’t murder. He hasn't even worked in about three or six months… He's walking around on the street. He goes everywhere,” she told the newspaper. “He puts his headphones on and skateboards.”

Grant's father, Christopher, told the New York Daily News that his son was “just a loving boy who was there for his family and his daughter.”

“It's just so sad that she has to grow up without a father,” he said.
