Tallahassee man charged in death of 6-year-old from malnutrition

Xavier Peterson, 35, was arrested on charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child and child neglect. He is being held without bail at the Leon County Detention Center, according to court records.

According to a news release from the Leon County Sheriff's Office, the agency had been investigating the child's death since June after officers responded to a call reporting an unresponsive child.

“Upon arrival, officers determined the child was deceased,” LCSO said. “Further investigation revealed signs of possible neglect.”

The autopsy report revealed that the child suffered from malnutrition.
