Former detention worker arrested after 45 dogs and 4 horses found 'living in deplorable conditions'

MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – A Madison County man, Wesley Keyser, was arrested on animal cruelty charges after 45 dogs and four horses were found in “deplorable condition,” according to Sheriff Randy Tucker.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office was notified Thursday of animal cruelty-related issues.

Police arrived on scene within minutes of receiving the call and found 45 dogs and four horses suffering from malnutrition and lacking shelter from the weather.

The animals were taken to the Webster Animal Shelter in Madison, where they are being cared for by several veterinarians.

The goal of the animal shelter is to return them to a new home after they have been cared for.

Sheriff Tucker stated, “Keyser will be charged with animal cruelty for each animal removed from the premises.”

Tucker concluded: “The dogs and horses lived in deplorable conditions and we hope they find new owners. To those who inflict suffering on our animals, be advised that we will take every legal action to ensure that you pay the price for inflicting suffering on the defenseless. This will never be tolerated in Madison County. Keyser, a former detention center employee (employed approximately nine months), was arrested at the scene and fired from his job.”
