National Drug Take Back Day approaches this weekend

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Jonesboro police officers will line up outside the police department and Sam's Club to collect expired or unwanted medications.

DEA's National Drug Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m

Medications, including over-the-counter and prescription medications, may be dropped off for proper disposal, but needles are not permitted.

There are two nationwide drug take-back days every year.

Public Information Specialist Sally Smith said the drop box at JPD is available to citizens 24 hours a day.

“So far this year we have collected 844 pounds of medication that people have dropped into our box,” Smith said.

Smith said it's not a good idea to throw old medications in the trash. She said anyone can use or sell anything that is thrown in the trash.
