VW manager deported from China to Germany after alleged drug use in Thailand

A Volkswagen AG executive in China has been deported to Germany after being held for alleged drug use as trade tensions escalate between Brussels and Beijing, according to local police and media.

Beijing police arrested Jochen SengpiehlVW marketing chief and head of product strategy for China after returning from Thailand on suspicion of using cocaine and marijuana during the trip, a police report says. The charges triggered Beijing's Administrative Penalties Law, which requires Sengpiehl to be detained for 10 days until Oct. 20, the Oct. 10 report said.
