Lynn Haven hosts a fentanyl workshop to educate about the dangers of the drug

LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times more potent than heroin. A local town held a workshop Thursday evening to highlight the danger posed by the drug.

Fentanyl is known as a “killer in disguise,” which is why the City of Lynn Haven and the Lynn Haven Police Department hosted an educational forum about the widely used drug.

Event participants discussed facts about fentanyl and helped bring attention to the dangers posed by the drug.

There were lessons on how to recognize fentanyl pills and how to recognize warning signs that others may be taking fentanyl.

Lynn Haven Police Chief Ricky Ramie says the instability and uncertainty surrounding the drug is what makes it so dangerous.

“There are probably more end dates on gravestones than any other drug I've ever seen in my career. “Basically, you don’t know where it’s made, who made it, and how strong the dose you’re actually getting,” Ramie said.

Officials with the Lynn Haven Police Department said they wanted to emphasize the importance of everyone working as a team to keep fentanyl off the streets and out of the hands of people in the community.
