Over 70% of Organizations Expect a Disruptive Cybersecurity Incident in the Next Year: Survey

There is a disconnect between the perceived and actual cyber readiness of global organizations. Although 94% of companies feel prepared to mitigate cyberattacks, 71% believe they are likely to experience a disruptive incident within the next year that will impact their financial performance, according to a survey by Kyndryl in collaboration with Amazon Web Services resulted.

This discrepancy highlights the need for greater awareness and response to address complex cyber threats.

Other key findings from the survey of more than 600 large companies highlight the challenges of the cyber threat landscape:

Evolving Threat Landscape: Over half (52%) of IT leaders are struggling with operational challenges such as preparing for emerging threats such as national-level attacks and generative artificial intelligence. Securing hybrid cloud environments (47%) and managing the complexity of operating multiple security solutions (42%) were also top concerns.

High attack frequency: Last year, 54% of large companies reported experiencing a cyberattack that disrupted IT systems or data. Of these, 61% experienced four or more attacks, with Germany (71%), Canada (60%) and India (56%) the three most affected countries.

Inadequate management support: A significant 69% of respondents reported a lack of support from company leaders regarding necessary security measures. Even larger, 73% reported disinterest in security preparedness at the board level.

Lack of coordination in regulatory preparation: Although 94% of respondents are confident in navigating changing regulatory dynamics as regulatory pressure to improve overall cyber resilience increases, 77% are having difficulty aligning security and other risk mitigating teams and 72% lack clear plans for doing so Business continuity.
