play

Major League Baseball's 2024 World Series begins Friday in Los Angeles, a highly anticipated matchup between the Dodgers and New York Yankees.

The league announced its nine-member umpiring team for the best-of-seven series, led by team principal Mark Carlson, who is making his third career World Series appearance. The other referees on the field are Doug Eddings, Chad Fairchild, Andy Fletcher, Mark Ripperger, Todd Tichenor and Carlos Torres – with Cory Blaser and James Hoye on replay.

With seven umpires in the rotation, a different umpire will be scheduled behind home plate for each game, starting with Torres in Game 1. One of the seven will be off the field for each game of the series.

Eddings, Fairchild and Tichenor are competing in their second career World Series, while Fletcher, Ripperger and Torres are making their Fall Classic debuts. Tichenor will serve as crew chief if Carlson is not on the field for Game 2.
