Jennifer Gledhill's parents were arrested in connection with the murder of Matthew Johnson

The parents of a woman accused of killing her husband in Cottonwood Heights have been arrested for their role in covering up a murder.

Thomas Ray Gledhill, 71, and Rosalie Christianson Gledhill, 67, were taken into custody Thursday.

Her daughter, 41-year-old Jennifer Gledhill, has been charged with the murder of her husband, Matthew Johnson.

Cottonwood Heights police officials said she killed Johnson with a pistol while he was sleeping and then took his body out of her home.

MORE on the murder of Matthew Johnson:

Johnson was originally reported missing by his wife. Jennifer Gledhill was charged with murder after police said an informant came forward.

Officers believed Thomas and Rosalie Gledhill had helped their daughter clean up her house after the murder.

While executing a search warrant, investigators found blood stains in the master bedroom under a newly purchased mattress.

Investigators said Rosalie Gledhill purchased the mattress to replace the one she believes killed Johnson.

Rosalie Gledhill told police she had been at her daughter's house for less than an hour to pick up clothes, a probable cause statement said.

Neighbors told police they saw the woman in the house for more than five hours.

Police took Rosalie Gledhill's phone to retrieve data about her whereabouts during that time. They discovered that the phone had been “remotely reset” and all data was lost.

Officials said they looked at Jennifer Gledhill's digital footprint after Johnson's disappearance.

They found a conversation between her and her father about the new mattress that was to be delivered to his home and later picked up by her.

Police also said on Sept. 22, when Jennifer Gledhill was suspected of driving north into Davis County to dispose of Johnson's body in a “shallow grave,” the only call she made was to Thomas Gledhill be.

The phone was then turned off for “a few hours” before being turned back on. According to court documents, she then called her father.

Officers also asked Thomas Gledhill about the master bedroom and the alleged cleanup at his daughter's home.

According to charging documents, Gledhill told police, “He did not go where the incident occurred.”

He also told them that he had been home for less than an hour. Neighborhood witnesses also reported seeing him for more than five hours.

Thomas Gledhill was charged with three counts of first-degree obstruction of justice. Rosalie Gledhill was booked into jail on four charges.
