After a car accident, a train hits the tracks in a northern suburbAfter a car accident Thursday evening, an Amtrak train struck a vehicle that ended up on the tracks in Morton Grove, authorities said.

MORTON GROVE, Ill. (WLS) — Two cars crashed in the northern suburbs on Thursday evening, with one of them driving onto train tracks.

The driver was able to escape before an Amtrak train struck the vehicle.

The accident happened around 7:45 p.m. near River Drive and Lehigh Avenue in Morton Grove on the tracks that Amtrak shares with Metra.

The driver of an Acura collided with a parked car on Lehigh Avenue before driving onto the tracks, disabling the vehicle, police said. The 56-year-old man driving the Acura was arrested for drunk driving.

Metra's Milwaukee North Line began service with delays as tracks are expected to close overnight.

No one was seriously injured in the crash.
