A Tennessee man has been arrested for allegedly shooting at a vehicle during a speeding incident in Hazel Green

A Tennessee man was taken into custody Thursday after he allegedly opened fire on an occupied car during a traffic accident in Alabama earlier this week, authorities said.

Donnie Kent, 29, is being held in the Lincoln County, Tennessee, jail and is expected to be extradited to Madison County in connection with the Hazel Green incident, the Madison County Sheriff's Office said.

The sheriff's office said it received a report “earlier this week” of a road rage incident on Highway 231 North in Hazel Green where a vehicle was driving recklessly and dangerously. The office did not specify when the incident occurred, but it is different from another road rage incident that occurred in Hazel Green that involved gunfire and an attack with a baseball bat.

During a joint investigation with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, investigators from both agencies identified Kent as a suspect.

He was charged with two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle; Sheriff's investigators said they expect additional charges against Kent.

“We are pleased to announce an arrest in this case that will provide some level of education for the affected victims,” Madison County Sheriff Kevin Turner said in a statement.

“We appreciate the cooperation and assistance provided by Sheriff Tull Malone and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office during this investigation. The successful investigation and arrest of the perpetrator reflects the strong partnership between both agencies and our unwavering commitment to public safety.”

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the Madison County Sheriff's Office at 256-722-7181.
