Two years since the death of singer Krishnakumar Kunnath KK: The health condition that took his life | KK singer's reason for death | Health

When singer KK, aka Krishnakumar Kunnath, died in Kolkata in May 2022 shortly after a high-energy live performance at the age of 53, it shocked the nation. On his birthday today, Google Doodle paid tribute to him and he is trending with a search volume of over 500,000. On the fateful day, the 'Tadap Tadap' singer reportedly felt pain in his arms and severe fatigue even before the show began. Organizers and his band said he also complained of a “feeling of heaviness” during the concert and was seen sweating profusely during the show.
After the show, he collapsed in his hotel and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Doctors initially said he died as a result of a severe cardiac arrest. However, an autopsy revealed that he suffered from severe lung and liver diseases and even had long-standing heart problems. His autopsy report listed the cause of death as “hypoxia” following acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema due to pathological heart disease combined with subarachnoid hemorrhage.

What hypoxia cost KK his life?
In simple terms, hypoxia means that the body or a certain part of it does not receive enough oxygen. According to the Cleveland Clinic, “Any condition that reduces the amount of oxygen in your blood flow can cause hypoxia.” If you have existing lung diseases such as COPD, asthma or emphysema, you may be at risk of hypoxia. Even COVID-19, flu and pneumonia infections can increase the risk of hypoxia.
In KK's case, the autopsy report states that his heart was not pumping well, which led to a buildup of fluid in his lungs, making it difficult for him to breathe, resulting in hypoxia.

Symptoms of hypoxia
Depending on the severity of the health condition causing hypoxia, different symptoms may occur. Some of them are:
1) Headache
2) Fast heart rate
3) Difficulty breathing
4) Shortness of breath
5) Restlessness
6) Confusion
7) Fear
8) Bluish skin
9) Slow heart rate
