2 people in hospital after two-vehicle crash near Newberry

NEWBERRY, Fla. (WCJB) – Alachua County and Newberry Fire Rescue, along with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol, responded to a crash on State Road 26.

Firefighters responded to a two-vehicle collision east of the town of Newberry around 11:30 Thursday evening.

The first arriving crew reported significant damage to both vehicles and believes it was a head-on collision.

Both drivers had to be extricated and crews used the Jaws of Life to save them.

Both drivers in the crash were transported to a local trauma center by the Alachua County Fire Department.

FHP is currently investigating the cause of the crash
