Video from 2018 spreads as China prepares to move against Taiwan

What we found: We divided the video into several screenshots and did a reverse Google Image search for some of them.

  • We came across the same video The Guardian's official YouTube channel from January 4, 2018.

  • It was uploaded with the title “Chinese army demonstrates military might for Xi Jinping.”

  • The Guardian noted: “China's president addresses 7,000 military personnel as the country begins a new round of training in Hebei province, just outside Beijing. Xi stressed the importance of real combat training and winning wars.” (sic)

  • We also came across a report from the same news outlet that contained still images of the video. It was also from 2018.

  • At this meeting, Jinping noted: “The military should “create an elite and powerful force that is always combat-ready, combat-capable and confidently victorious to carry out the tasks assigned by the Party and the people in the new era.”

Tension in Taiwan: After extensive exercises, the Chinese military launched a live-fire exercise near Taiwan to continue putting pressure on the island. Jinping called on troops to be ready for war on October 22.

  • This month it deployed aircraft and naval ships near the island in response to what Beijing described as a strong message against actions promoting “Taiwan independence.”

  • Taiwan's defense ministry said it was closely monitoring China's “military activities and intentions” in response to the exercises, it said AFP above The Hindu

Diploma: An old video from 2018 is shared and linked to Jinping's recent message on strengthening troops.
