Walmart worker found 'burned' by her mother in store's walk-in oven | World News

A Walmart employee who “burned” to death in a Canadian store's walk-in oven is said to have been discovered by her mother.

Gursimran Kaur, 19, was found dead at a branch in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on October 19.

A GoFundMe appeal to support her family said Ms Kaur's mother, who also worked at the store, tried to find her after she couldn't get through on the phone.

Other employees suspected she was helping a customer, but her mother found her “charred remains” in the oven a few hours later, it said.

“Imagine the horror her mother experienced when she opened the oven,” reads the fundraising page, organized by a local Sikh association.

Halifax police confirmed that a 19-year-old was found in a “large walk-in oven in the bakery section of the store.”

It was a complex investigation, adding: “It is important to note that the investigation has not yet reached a point where the cause and manner of death have been confirmed.”

To date, more than 192,000 Canadian dollars (106,000 pounds sterling) have been raised for the family, far exceeding the goal of 50,000 Canadian dollars.

The GoFundMe page said Ms. Kaur was a “young, beautiful girl who came into her own.” Canada with big dreams”.

It said the money would help her father and brother travel from India and the rest would “go directly to the surviving family.”

The store was closed following the death and a Walmart spokesman said: “We are heartbroken and our deepest thoughts are with our associate and his family.”

“Our focus remains on looking after our employees and ensuring they receive the support they need.”
