Man who died after community center 'incident' is named

A man who died after an alleged incident at a community center this week has been named.

William Copeland, 36, and a 59-year-old man were found with serious injuries in the Burnbank Center area of ​​Hamilton at around 3.50pm on Monday.

William died at the scene and the 59-year-old man was taken to hospital by ambulance. His condition is unknown.

The 56-year-old man is due at Hamilton Sheriff Court today and a report will be sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.

All road closures and access restrictions to businesses in the area have been lifted since yesterday, but police say a heavy police presence remains in the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Susie Cairns, of Lanarkshire CID, said: “Our thoughts are with the families of those affected as they try to come to terms with what happened.”

“We will continue to have an increased police presence in the area as we understand that an incident of this nature could be very unsettling and worrying for people in this community. Anyone with concerns is asked to speak to these officers.”
