2 people have been arrested in connection with a drug bust in downtown Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Two people charged with drug trafficking in Springfield are behind bars Friday morning.

The Springfield Police Firearm Investigation Unit has conducted multiple searches in the wooded areas near Taylor Street where there has been an increase in suspected drug transactions.

On Wednesday, officers conducted surveillance in the area and arrested 46-year-old Carlos Perez-Morales of Springfield and 43-year-old Jonathan Rivera of Holyoke for their alleged involvement in the drug operation.

Officers found 200 bags of heroin and several bags and capsules of cocaine.

Nine other people were also arrested in connection with drug operations in the area.
